Caste based reservations would strengthen the caste system and will create divisions in society.

To believe that by removing a reference to caste, caste based inequalities would vanish is like believing in a delusion. Even today in our society marriages are arranged within caste. Highly educated men and women, NRIs also look for matches not just within their own caste but in their relevant sub castes.

If social barriers, inequalities and injustices are based on caste, then to remove them one will have to base the solutions also on caste. That would not increase the divisions but in stead would reduce them.

It is the upper castes that try to divide the society in order to safeguard their selfish interests. But there are among the upper castes sensitive and just, men and women who understand the importance of reservations and who support it. Recently, a survey conducted by CNN showed that 58 % of the respondents supported reservations.

Thus it is not the reservation policy that divides. It is the people who cling to their selfish interests and those who venomously propagate against reservations that create divisions.
