Nearly 60 MPs belonging to OBC, led by Mr.V.Hanumantha Rao, MP (RS), Convenor of OBC MPs Forum met Hon'ble Speaker of Lok Sabha Ms.Meira Kumar today (17.3.2011) at 1 PM and submitted a memorandum urging her to constitute a Parliamentary Committee for OBC. They have stated that there is no mechanism at present to monitor the implementation of 27% reservation policy.

The representation of OBCs in Central Government departments in Group A posts is a mere 5% as against the 27% reservation earmarked for OBCs and in Universities, many of the OBC seats are diverted to generalists, the memorandum says.

Hence, the demand for a Parliamentary Committee for OBC as that of SC and ST so that the implementation and other related matters concerning OBCs can be monitored for proper and strict implementation, Convenor V.Hanumantha Rao apprised Speaker.

Minister Bharat Singh Solanki, Sameer Bhujbal (NCP), Ms.Jaya Prada were present. MPs T.R.Baalu, Dr.K.P.Ramalingam, N.S.V.Chithan are notable presence from Tamilnadu State.

Speaker Ms.Meira Kumar assured the delegation that the matter will be given top priority and consideration.
